Advent – What it Means to Us
This is our absolute favorite time of the Liturgical year. It is a beautiful build-up to Christmas, an event that is celebrated by so many.
Advent means ‘coming’ in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world.
We only began to understand more about Advent and appreciate this season after we were baptized in 2016. The simple act of lighting the first purple candle and watching it glow, brings me so much joy. This marks the beginning of anticipation to somethings so powerful …. God entering our human world, to fulfil the law through perfect love.
Certain events that have happened in my life over the recent years have helped me to just immerse myself in this season of beauty, peace, and calm anticipation. It is a season of almsgiving, reflection and to prepare our hearts and our home for Christmas. There is music, baking in advance and choosing or making gifts. So many memories are created during this season.
Advent this year begins on November 29th. We have prepared our candles, now we need to take out the wreath and look forward to lighting the first candle.
Advent spreads the message of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.
